Upgrading to version 2.0

If you purchased Rad Vine prior to 27 September 2010, you can upgrade to version 2.0 of Rad Vine for free. Just click the link to the App Store at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you can upgrade direcly on your iPhone or iPod Touch by going to the App Store App and going to the "Updates" section. Version 2.0 has been completely redesigned with a beautifully presented interface, faster refresh times and much more. Your iPhone or iPod Touch needs to be running at least the 4.0 iOS software in order to see the version 2.0 upgrade in iTunes - you can update your iPhone or iPod Touch through iTunes if you need to.

General navigation

The main way to navigate around the different sections of the app is to tap the "menu" button. When you do this you will see a menu with different icons for the different features of the app. To select a feature, just tap an icon or alternatively you can press "menu" again to dismiss the menu. Some more navigation hints:

  • If you, for example, select "Style", "Red Wine" then choose a wine, when you see the wine review you can swipe to the left to see the immediately preceding wine review or swipe to the right to see the next wine review. You can keep swiping left or right to move between all wine reviews;
  • Swiping left or right on a review will also take you to related reviews in a group, for example, if you selected "Winery" then chose "Penfolds", then one of the Penfolds wines, if you swipe left or right on the review, you will get to see other Penfolds wine reviews;
  • The same applies for Regions, Varieties and Featured wines;
  • In the "Label" section, swipe left or right to get to the next wine label picture. Tap the blue disclosure indicator to get to the specific wine review (which looks like a ">" in the bottom right hand corner of the screen).
  • The same applies for the "Articles" section.

Setting favourites

When looking at a wine review, you can set a wine as a favourite by tapping the "heart" icon which appears at the bottom of the review. To unset the wine as a favourite just tap the heart again. When a wine is set as a favourite, it will appear in the "Favourite" list which appears when you select "Favourite" from the menu. This way you can build up your own list of favourite wines or wines to investigate further.

Recently added wines

The "Recent" section available from the menu shows all wines in the order they were added by Louise with the most recently added wine first. This is useful particularly after a refresh if you want to find the most recently added wines.

Maps

When we know the GPS coordinates of a winery, you can tap the map button which appears at the bottom of a wine review to see the winery on a map. A map will appear and a pin with drop showing the location of the winery. Tap on the pin and the name of the winery will appear. If you then tap the disclosure icon (which looks like a ">") you will be taken to a list of the winery's wines and can proceed from there.

About push notifications

The app will automatically send you push notifications when Louise adds new wines or articles. This is so that you will know that these can be downloaded into the app by doing a refresh. If you do not wish to receive push notifications, you can switch these off by going to the "Settings" app on your iPhone or iPod Touch, choosing "Notifications", then "Rad Vine", then changing "Sounds", "Alerts" and "Badges" to OFF.

Using refresh

When you select "Refresh" from the menu the app will download the latest wine information into the app, including the latest Articles and Wine Labels. You should not close the app in the middle of a refresh as doing so can cause the database to become out-of-sync or corrupted.

General troubleshooting

  • The most likely cause of the app closing unexpectedly is your iPhone or iPod Touch running out of memory. Just restart your phone and try again.
  • If you are having numerous problems with the app, it is possible that the database has become our of sync (maybe the app was closed during a refresh or something of that nature). The best way to fix this is to start again - delete the app off your iPhone or iPod Touch then install it again freshly by downloading from the App Store. Because you have already purchased the app you will be able to download it again for free from the App Store (or iTunes).
